The Foundations of Evaluation: REEDs, Notices, and Legal Framework Guidance (Granbury ISD) - 36898
This session provides a practical walkthrough of the special education evaluation process, beginning with the Review of Existing Evaluation Data (REED) and continuing through evaluation planning, procedural requirements, and documentation considerations. Participants will examine how to use existing data to guide decision-making, determine when additional assessment is needed, and ensure evaluations are targeted, purposeful, and legally defensible.
The session will also include guidance on completing and communicating the Notice of Proposal to Evaluate, including required components, timelines, parent communication considerations, and common compliance concerns. In addition, participants will receive a refresher on navigating the Texas Legal Framework for special education, with a focus on locating guidance related to evaluations, timelines, consent, REED requirements, and multidisciplinary decision-making. Practical examples and discussion opportunities will help participants connect legal requirements to everyday evaluation practices.
