Raising the Bar: Designing Assessments for Advanced Thinkers in the Secondary Classroom (GT Update) - 35799

In advanced secondary classrooms, assessments should do more than measure recall; they should capture the depth and complexity of student thinking. In this session, secondary science and social studies teachers will learn to design assessments that mirror the rigor of their instruction and challenge students to analyze, evaluate, and apply their knowledge. Using Webb’s Depth of Knowledge (DOK) in tandem with the Depth and Complexity framework, we will explore how to raise cognitive demand while scaffolding opportunities for students to think like experts. We will examine STAAR 2.0 item types, AP-style questions, and performance-based tasks to build rigorous, differentiated assessments. This session counts as a 6-hour GT update.
