DBQ 201: From Modeling to Mastery: Scaffolding Document Analysis - 37449
Strong document analysis is taught—not assigned. This hands-on session explores how teachers can model the thinking historians use when analyzing sources and gradually release that responsibility to students. Participants will develop and practice a script for modeling document analysis and explore strategies for differentiation through task cards, stations, jigsaws, and other collaborative structures.

Teacher - High School (Grades 9-12), Teacher - Middle School (Grades 6-8), Instructional Coaches/Support Specialists, Instructional Leaders, Teacher - Gifted Talented/Advanced Academics, Teacher - Special Education, Teacher Certification Candidate
Objectives
Using differentiation tools such as task cards or stations, Social Studies teachers will create a modeled document-analysis script and an explicit gradual-release plan that scaffolds historian-level thinking for diverse learners.
