From Decoding to Making Meaning: Building Word Knowledge in Elementary Classrooms (K-2nd Grade) - 36714

Big words can be a barrier or a bridge to comprehension. For many students, they are where comprehension starts to break down. In this session, we’ll focus on making complex words more accessible through explicit, systematic instruction in word reading, word meaning, and morphemes. Participants will explore simple, practical routines to help students break apart words by sound and meaning, read them accurately, and understand them with confidence. Instructional strategies will be tailored to the grade level of the session so they can be applied right away.
