Teaching with DBQs: Launching Historical Inquiry Through Primary Sources - 35762
This session guides teachers through the full DBQ process—from engaging students with compelling questions to analyzing primary and secondary sources and writing evidence-based arguments. Participants will experience a DBQ as learners, then shift to the teacher perspective to explore strategies for building content knowledge, literacy, and critical thinking. Teachers will leave with practical tools to increase the use of primary sources, rigor and higher-order thinking, and authentic writing opportunities in their classroom.

Teacher - General Education, Teacher - High School (Grades 9-12), Teacher - Elementary (Grades 1-5), Teacher - ESL (English as a Second Language), Teacher - Gifted Talented/Advanced Academics, Teacher - Middle School (Grades 6-8), Teacher - Special Education
Objectives
1. Teachers will experience the full DBQ process from the student and teacher perspectives.
2. Teachers will identify how DBQs support both content learning and historical thinking skills.
3. Teachers will develop a plan to implement DBQs into their existing curriculum.
