Scottish Rite for Children (SRC) Build: A K-1 Early Reading Intervention - 34114
Join us for for the Build: A K-1 Early Reading Intervention curriculum developed by the dedicated staff at the Luke Waites Center for Dyslexia and Learning Disorders at Scottish Rite for Children. This innovative and engaging 100-lesson program is designed specifically for K-1 students identified as at risk or having dyslexia, addressing their unique reading needs through a small-group intervention format. In this session, we will explore the five essential components of reading intervention that form the foundation of the Build program:
Alphabet: Learn how we facilitate letter identification, sequencing skills, and alphabetizing in a way that is accessible and enjoyable for young learners.
Letter/Sound Knowledge: Discover our systematic approach to teaching individual letters and sounds, guiding students toward the confident practice of reading words and sentences.
Phonological Awareness: Understand how we explicitly introduce the relationships between speech-sound production, from rhyme to spelling, to enhance students' auditory processing skills.
Vocabulary: Explore our strategies for direct teaching of vocabulary, focusing on using context clues to help students infer the meanings of unfamiliar words.
Comprehension: Gain insights into our methods for explicitly teaching comprehension strategies that help students identify the fundamental components of a story.
This session will provide educators with practical tools and techniques to support at-risk students in their reading development. Attendees will leave with a clearer understanding of how to implement these strategies effectively in their classrooms.
This session is aligned with the Intervention component of the TEA-required self-assessment.
