Trauma and the Deaf Child - 33514

This presentation explores the definition of trauma and its relative frequency within the deaf population. It will also cover how childhood trauma affects the brain and the developmental and functional impacts of those brain changes. Specifically, how trauma can impact learning and functioning in the school environment will be discussed along with strategies to help and support children children who are DHH in the educational space. This workshop aligns with the required TEA Special Education Self-Assessment indicators 17, 19, and 20.

Participants will identify two specific ways in which trauma affects the learning process as a child's broader success in the educational environment.
