Neonatal Assessment Visual European Grid (NAVEG) Screening Training - 36583
Cortical Visual Impairment (CVI) is the leading cause of visual impairment in children in developed countries. Yet, it can be difficult to identify because it reflects differences in visual processing rather than eye structure. The Neonatal Assessment Vision European Grid (NAVEG) is an emerging screening tool designed to help professionals identify early visual behaviors that may indicate CVI in infants and young children.
This training introduces participants to the theory and structure of the NAVEG screening tool, including ocular, motor, and perceptual visual components. Through lecture, demonstration, and guided hands-on practice, participants will learn how to administer the screening and interpret results to determine when a referral to an eye care professional is appropriate.
Designed for interdisciplinary early childhood professionals—including Teachers of Students with Visual Impairments, Occupational Therapists, Speech-Language Pathologists, Orientation and Mobility Specialists, medical professionals, and early intervention providers—this training requires no prior experience with CVI. Participants will leave with practical strategies for early identification and collaborative referral practices that support better outcomes for young children with suspected visual processing differences.
