Sorting Through the STAARs with ESC Region 11 - 36253
In this session, participants will engage in a comprehensive review the 2025 science STAAR items for elementary and middle school. Each item will be categorized by item type, aligned content standard, science and engineering practice, and recurring theme and concept. The STAAR item set will then be compared with the TEA-published STAAR Blueprint and Assessed Curriculum document. State and district trends in student responses will be compared, with special attention given to the short-constructed-response (SCR). The 2025 science SCRs rubrics will be reviewed and a sample student set of responses will be compared to the rubric for a sorting activity of responses. In addition, participants will be provided resources for developing prompts, assessing, and guiding students through claim-evidence-reasoning written responses.
