Coaching Families in Early Intervention: For Professionals Working with Children, Ages Birth to Three, Who are DHH, BVI, or DB - 36171
This workshop focuses on using the coaching approach with families and caregivers when providing infant and toddler services. Coaching is required for all Early Childhood Intervention service providers, including services for children who are deaf or hard of hearing (DHH), blind of visually impaired (VI), or deafblind (DB). Coaching ensures that families and caregivers of children, ages birth to three, feel competent and confident in supporting their children in all aspects of their development. This workshop is designed for teachers of the deaf and hard of hearing, teachers of students with visual impairments, and certified orientation and mobility specialists working in early intervention, and it will provide opportunities to practice strategies that can be used to better collaborate and partner with families and caregivers of infants and toddlers. This session addresses TEA's Special Education Self-Assessment Indicators 1, 2, 14, and 22.

Prerequisite/Special Notes
Participants should be working with at least one family or caregiver in early intervention services.
Objectives
By the end of this workshop, participants will be able to list the five components of coaching, explain the importance of coaching families and caregivers in early intervention, and identify at least 2 examples of effective coaching strategies.
