Building Understanding from Cuisenaire Rods: From Concrete to Concept Mathematics Online Series - 34377
Inspired by the power of hands-on learning, this interactive session, Building Understanding from Cuisenaire Rods: From Concrete to Concept in Mathematics, aims to equip educators with the knowledge and tools to enhance student understanding of algebraic concepts through the Concrete-Representational-Abstract (CRA) Instructional Sequence. Participants will explore how to effectively use Cuisenaire Rods and Algebra Tiles to transition students from concrete manipulatives to abstract reasoning, fostering a solid mathematical foundation. Together, we will develop a structured learning progression that incorporates these manipulatives to support deeper understanding of key algebraic concepts. Additionally, attendees will design a student-centered formative assessment to guide instructional planning and facilitate conceptual mastery in their classrooms. This session is ideal for K-8 mathematics educators seeking to transform their teaching strategies and improve student engagement in middle school math. In this self-paced online session, participants will engage in interactive learning tasks using Desmos Classroom platform.
