Visual Phonics for Educators - 24318
This two-day workshop explores the multi-sensory Visual Phonics program and its benefits in reinforcing oral language, speech, literacy, and writing skills for students who are deaf or hard of hearing, bilingual, or possess diverse learning needs. This hands-on workshop develops the skills necessary to implement Visual Phonics in therapeutic and instructional settings and explores research-based strategies to support beginning spelling and reading instruction with the support of Visual Phonics. Participants are provided opportunities to practice the following techniques for teaching: (1) Letter recognition/matching/naming/formation, (2) Phonemic awareness (K-2), (3) Phoneme-grapheme (sound-symbol) association, (4) Blending of one-syllable decodable words, (5) Recognition of irregular words, and (6) Building accuracy and speed in word recognition. An application for ASHA CEUs is pending.

Objectives
Participants will explore the rationale behind VP and the impact it has on diverse learners.
Participants will establish a working knowledge of the VP hand shapes and printed symbols.
Participants will identify strategies and uses of VP to reinforce literacy, writing, and speech production.
Participants will explore strategies for reinforcing articulation therapy while teaching letter recognition, phonemic awareness, phoneme-grapheme association, & syllable/phoneme blend
