Math Studio: Elementary Grades (K-5) - Geometry - 37381

Teaching elementary school mathematics requires more than covering standards—it involves creating learning experiences where students make sense of mathematics, recognize connections, and develop lasting understanding. Math Studio: Elementary Grades (K-5) is a series of focused, full-day professional learning sessions designed to support teachers in strengthening instruction across key mathematical strands: number and operations; algebraic reasoning; geometry; measurement; and data analysis. Each session offers practical, classroom-ready strategies that intentionally balance conceptual understanding with procedural fluency. Participants will engage in meaningful mathematical tasks, examine student thinking, and experience instructional routines that promote discourse, reasoning, and problem solving.

Objectives
Participants will explore geometric concepts, including attributes of two-dimensional shapes, and will compose, decompose, classify, and sort shapes to deepen their understanding of spatial reasoning. They will explore strategies to support students in developing this reasoning and in making connections between geometric concepts and real-world applications, while addressing common misconceptions and building coherence across the progression of elementary geometry standards.
