Math Studio: Middle Grades - Proportionality - 36662
Teaching middle school mathematics requires more than covering standards; it involves creating learning experiences where students make sense of mathematics, recognize connections, and develop lasting understanding.
Math Studio: Middle Grades (6–8) is a series of focused, half-day professional learning sessions designed to support teachers in strengthening instruction across key mathematical strands: proportionality; equations, expressions, and relationships; geometry and measurement; and data and statistics.
Each session offers practical, classroom-ready strategies that intentionally balance conceptual understanding with procedural fluency. Participants will engage in meaningful mathematical tasks, examine student thinking, and experience instructional routines that promote discourse, reasoning, and problem solving.
Educators may attend one or multiple sessions based on their instructional goals. While each session is designed to stand alone, together they contribute to a cohesive vision of effective middle grades mathematics instruction. Participants will leave with tools, strategies, and resources they can immediately implement to support all learners.

Objectives
Participants will engage in analyzing proportional and non-proportional relationships to deepen their understanding of connections across multiple representations. They will explore strategies for supporting students in reasoning about ratios, rates, slope, and scale, while addressing common misconceptions and building coherence across the progression of middle grades proportionality standards.
