Safe and Civil Schools- Coaching CHAMPS: Building a System of Support for ALL Teachers - 36163
Challenging student behavior can create significant barriers to a productive learning environment, which is why it’s crucial for school leadership to support the implementation of clear structures and routines across schools. CHAMPS (Conversation, Help, Activity, Movement, Participation, and Success) and Discipline in the Secondary Classroom (DSC) provide comprehensive frameworks for establishing and reinforcing expectations for student behavior. CHAMPS offers a proactive approach to managing behavior through clear guidelines for various classroom activities, helping students understand how to succeed in each context. Meanwhile, DSC focuses on strategies that support educators in addressing challenging behaviors consistently and effectively, particularly in grades 9-12. By adopting a proactive approach to teaching positive behavior expectations, administrators can ensure that educators have the necessary tools to create respectful, well-managed school environments that promote both student success and a positive school culture. This session will provide a pathway to building a school-wide program for implementing proven, research-based classroom management practices through coaching and ensuring that the plan is implemented successfully.
This session is aligned with the Behavior component of the TEA-required self-assessment.
