Communication access is crucial for students who are Deaf or Hard of Hearing (DHH). Augmentative and Alternative Communication (AAC) can be a powerful tool to expand language, literacy, and participation opportunities for all DHH students, whether they use spoken language, sign language, or a combination of modalities. This session will explore the benefits of incorporating AAC into the classroom environment and provide practical strategies for implementing and modeling AAC to support student engagement and success. Teachers will leave with actionable ideas to create inclusive, language-rich learning spaces where every student’s voice is supported. This session addresses Special Education Self-Assessment indicators 9, 12, & 18.
