Safe and Civil Schools: An Overview of CHAMPS for Administrators - 34413

Challenging student behavior can create significant barriers to a productive learning environment, which is why it’s crucial for administrators to support the implementation of clear structures and routines across schools.CHAMPS (Conversation, Help, Activity, Movement, Participation, and Success) and Discipline in the Secondary Classroom (DSC) provide comprehensive frameworks for establishing and reinforcing expectations for student behavior. CHAMPS offers a proactive approach to managing behavior through clear guidelines for various classroom activities, helping students understand how to succeed in each context. Meanwhile, DSC focuses on strategies that support educators in addressing challenging behaviors with consistency and effectiveness, particularly in grades 9-12. By utilizing a proactive approach to teach positive behavior expectations, administrators can ensure that educators have the tools they need to create respectful, well-managed school environments that foster both student success and a positive school culture. This session is aligned with the Behavior component of the TEA-required self-assessment.
