The Heart Work: Recognizing Trauma in Pre-K Students - 27657
What is trauma? Trauma is a broad term that means an emotional response to a terrible event. Students with three or more Adverse Childhood Experiences (ACEs) are 80 percent more likely to experience one or more academic concerns and are significantly more likely to be unable to perform at grade level, be labeled as special education, be suspended, be expelled, or drop out of school. This session will equip participants with the tools and resources they need to recognize and best serve early childhood learners who have experienced trauma in their lives. We will learn about how trauma may present itself in early learners, and how to use the ACEs (Adverse Childhood Experiences) tool to screen for stress or trauma in a child's life. This session is a partnership between the early childhood and the counseling teams at ESC Region 11.
