Book Study: Comprehensive Literacy for All: Teaching Students with Significant Disabilities to Read and Write Virtual - 35077
This professional development book study will explore the book, "Comprehensive Literacy for All" by Karen Erickson and David Koppenhaver, which is designed for educators, specialists, support staff, and anyone interested in enhancing literacy instruction for all learners. This study will focus on Chapters 1 through 6, which lay the foundation for understanding emergent literacy development in students with significant disabilities. Erickson and Koppenhaver challenge longstanding misconceptions about who can learn to read and write, offer research-based strategies, and provide a practical framework for building comprehensive literacy instruction. The first six chapters emphasize the critical importance of early, meaningful access to literacy instruction for all students, regardless of their abilities.
This session is aligned with the Instructional Strategies components of the TEA-required Special Education Self-Assessment.
