Managing Challenging Behaviors in Students with Visual Impairments - 34655
This professional development session led by experts from the Texas School for the Blind is designed to help educators better understand and address challenging behaviors in students with visual impairments by using practical strategies to identify the underlying causes of undesired behaviors and implementing effective, individualized interventions. Participants will discuss behavior assessments, communication methods, and best-practice strategies for creating supportive, behavior-positive environments. Attendees will receive actionable tools for de-escalation, fostering self-regulation, and strengthening student-teacher relationships. This session, ideal for educators, Teachers of the Visually Impaired (TVIs), and support staff seeking to enhance their skills in behavior management and promoting positive student outcomes, addresses Special Education Self Evaluation indicators 12, 18, 19, and 21.

Objectives
By the end of this session, participants will be able to identify at least three common challenging behaviors in students with visual impairments and explain potential underlying causes.
By the end of this session, participants will create an action plan with at least two specific strategies for addressing challenging behaviors, including communication and de-escalation techniques, to implement in a classroom or service setting.
