Difference vs. Disorder: Speech and Language Assessment and Treatment of Bilingual Populations - 30398

This three-part, lunch-and-learn series will provide speech-language pathologists with hands-on experience evaluating and designing treatment plans for students who speak languages other than English at home. Videos, test protocol forms, and speech-language samples will be analyzed for speakers of a variety of languages to make diagnostic decisions and design dynamic assessment procedures and treatment plans. Participants must attend all three sessions.

After attending this series, participants will be able to:
  • Analyze language samples to make decisions about language difference versus disorder
  • Analyze speech samples to make decisions about language difference versus disorder
  • Analyze test protocol forms for qualitative information to include in diagnostic decisions
  • Select dynamic assessment targets based on speech and language samples
  • Design a treatment plan for a student from a bilingual environment
