Unlocking Language: Opening Linguistic Doors for Students who are Deaf or Hard of Hearing - 35086
This workshop, designed for teachers, administrators, sign language interpreters, and support staff who serve students who are deaf or hard of hearing (DHH), will address the ethics of and importance of facilitating language development with students who are DHH. Participants will discuss the impact of language deprivation on students and practice strategies to unlock language and promote optimal language acquisition. This session is aligned with the IEP Implementation, LRE, and Teachers and Staff components of the TEA-required Special Education Self-assessment. BEI CEUs will be available for ASL Interpreters.

Objectives
By the end of this workshop, participants will list three ways language acquisition positively impacts students and three ways language deprivation negatively impacts students.
By the end of this workshop, participants will identify two strategies for immediate implementation with students that promote language development.
