Insights into Child Protective Services for the Education Sign Language Interpreter (A Virtual, Synchronous Workshop) - 30374

This session will focus on the Child Protective Services (CPS) process from intake to completion and empower educational sign language interpreters with the legal justification as to why CPS is required to provide interpreters during all contact with students, staff, and parents per the Americans with Disabilities Act. Participants will learn and rehearse talking points that can be used when discussing and advising administrators regarding an educational interpreter's legally permitted interactions with CPS. They will identify ways educational interpreters can advocate for and support students in foster care. The presenter's professional knowledge and experience as a certified interpreter (RID Advanced, BEI Master, and Court IV) will be supplemented with personal experiences as a foster and adoptive parent.
