The Key to Comprehension: Metacognition and Figure 19 - Grades 7-12 - 13616

Figure 19 from the ELAR TEKS includes student expectations for reading that will aid students in optimal reading comprehension success. Participants in this workshop will learn research-based strategies that will strengthen comprehension and will help provide students with powerful, metacognitive strategies as they strive to become successful and more competent readers. Because comprehension skills will be assessed on STAAR at a greater depth and at higher levels of cognitive complexity, it is important for students to understand the full realm of metacognition. Key elements of the session will demonstrate how effective core instruction [Tier 1 of the Response to Intervention (RtI) model] is critical to student academic achievement.
