Trauma-Informed Services for Students who are Deaf/HH. - 30753
Trauma significantly impacts the most vulnerable population: children and youth. This impact can begin when a child is in utero and continue into adulthood. Understanding how trauma impacts the brain is essential because trauma not only affects one's behaviors but also how one receives and expresses language. This in-person workshop will focus on the science of trauma, how to work with children who are deaf/hard-of-hearing and have experienced trauma, how to maneuver this professional responsibility ethically, and how to adjust depending on the context. Professional knowledge and experience will be supplemented with the presenters' personal experiences as foster and adoptive parents.
