Educational Ethics & Lexical Equivalence: Professional Development for Educational Sign Language Interpreters - 24411
The morning portion of this workshop will focus on current trends in educational ethics. Participants will view the Code of Ethics and discuss the impact of the Code of Professional Conduct as it pertains to the educational interpreting field. Discussion topics include hearing privilege and horizontal violence in relation to educational settings, situational concerns, and shifts in value systems at a national level. The afternoon portion will address lexical equivalence in educational interpreting. Videos with objective scoring determinants in conjunction with participant-modeled, real-time interpreting will be used to analyze talent vs. deliberate practice. Expressive and receptive material for both interpreting and transliterating will be provided for comparative analysis. For sign language interpreters or another accommodation, email Anne Darr, adarr@esc11.net, by February 10, 2020.
