DESCRIPTION:The coaching approach is a research-based, family-centered method for providing early intervention services to infants and toddlers, ages birth to three, and their families. Rather than serving as the primary teacher or therapeutic provider, professionals partner with caregivers to build their confidence and capacity to support their child's learning and development through everyday routines and activities. When children are deaf, hard of hearing, blind, or visually impaired, Early Childhood Intervention (ECI) collaborates with the local education agency (LEA) to provide these services.

Designed for teachers of the deaf and hard of hearing, teachers of students with visual impairments, and certified orientation and mobility specialists working in early intervention, this workshop explores the principles and practices of the coaching approach required by ECI. Participants will examine the differences between direct teaching or therapeutic intervention and coaching, develop strategies for partnering effectively with families, and learn practical techniques for implementing coaching practices that support meaningful child and family outcomes.
