DESCRIPTION:This 2-day workshop provides an overview of using Active Learning, an instructional approach developed by Dr. Lilli Nielsen of Denmark. Participants will experience a guided look at the modules on Active Learning located on the TSBVI website (https://bit.ly/3NPW9nP). Active Learning is an instructional strategy for individuals who are blind, visually impaired, deaf/blind, developmentally functioning below 48 months old, regardless of chronological age, and learners with significant physical, cognitive, and emotional delays in addition to visual impairment. The Active Learning approach reinforces the principle that all individuals learn best through active participation. This workshop will use application activities to understand how to incorporate this approach in a self-contained classroom with multi-level learners. This course includes content from the Active Learning Space website (www.activelearningspace.org), a collaborative project developed by the Penrickton Center for Blind Children, Perkins School for the Blind, and Texas School for the Blind and Visually Impaired. This session addresses Special Education Self-Assessment indicators numbers 2, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 11, 12, 18, and 21.
